Tiger Habitat Modeling in Fragmented Landscape of Palamau

Description

In the recent few years the dwindling population of tiger has drawn the attention of not only the conservationist but also all the publics. However in spite of high efforts by the people still the tigers are in threatened conditions. To protect these critically endangered species, first we need to preserve their ecosystem, which can be done timely, cost effectively through geospatial technology. This book explains utility of remote sensing and GIS technologies along with ancillary information in developing habitat predictive models for tiger and its prey species. Time series satellite data, field based habitat parameters, landscape metrics and ancillary information have been used to model the habitat suitability of tiger, anthropogenic pressure on its habitat and habitat shrinkage in Plamau Tiger Reserve (PTR) of central India. This book will be helpful for wildlife managers, conservers and researchers.

Jon Bon Jovi: The Biography

Description

This fascinating biography provides a detailed portrait of the high-energy, charismatic international superstar and frontman of the ever-popular band, Bon Jovi. The book charts Jon's relationship with the other band members who have their fair share of rock and roll stories - sex, booze, burnouts, health and women problems. Although rock music is Jon Bon Jovi's first love, he has more recently developed an interest in acting - starring in various hit TV shows such as Ally McBeal and Sex and the City and attracting critical acclaim for his role in World War II hit film, U-571. He has also scored film music, with his score for Young Guns earning him an Oscar nomination. Bestselling writer Laura Jackson explores the personality, character, drive and the determination that have taken him from playing New Jersey clubs through all the groupie excess and glamorous indulgence to where the band is today. Two new chapters in this updated edition detail his recent work for charity, his involvement in politics and football and also give an update on the band's new albums and tours.

Stewart Firth: Australia in International Politics: An Introduction to Australian Foreign Policy

Australia in International Politics: An Introduction to Australian Foreign Policy

Description

The world changed for Australia after the terrorist attacks on the US on September 11, 2001 and the Bali bombings of 2002. Security became the dominant theme of Australian foreign policy. Australian military forces remained in Afghanistan years later, opposing the terrorist threat of the Taliban, while hundreds of Australian troops and police worked with public servants to build the state in Asia-Pacific countries such as East Timor and Solomon Islands. The world changed for Australia, too, when the global financial crisis of September 2008 threatened another Great Depression. Meanwhile, the international community made slow progress on measures to stem climate change, potentially Australia's largest security threat. This edition shows how the nation is responding to these challenges. The book describes how Australian foreign policy has evolved since Federation and how it is made. It examines Australia's part in the United Nations, humanitarian intervention and peacekeeping. It analyses defence policy and nuclear arms control. It explains why Australia survived the global financial crisis and why the G20 has become the leading institution of global economic governance. It charts the course of Australia's climate change diplomacy, the growth of Australia's foreign aid, human rights in foreign relations and the rise of China as a great power.

The End of Absence: Reclaiming What We've Lost in a World of Constant Connection

Description

Soon enough, nobody will remember life before the Internet. What does this unavoidable fact mean? For future generations, it won't mean anything very obvious. They will be so immersed in online life that questions about the Internet's basic purpose or meaning will vanish. But those of us who have lived both with and without the crowded connectivity of online life have a rare opportunity. We can still recognize the difference between Before and After. We catch ourselves idly reaching for our phones at the bus stop. Or we notice how, mid-conversation, a fumbling friend dives into the perfect recall of Google. In this eloquent and thought-provoking book, Michael Harris argues that amid all the changes we're experiencing, the most interesting is the one that future generations will find hardest to grasp. That is the end of absence-the loss of lack. The daydreaming silences in our lives are filled; the burning solitudes are extinguished. There's no true "free time" when you carry a smartphone. Today's rarest commodity is the chance to be alone with your own thoughts.

A Game of Our Own: The Origins of Australian Football

Description

Today Australian Rules football is a multi - million - dollar business' with superstar players' high - profile presidents and enough scandals to fill a soap opera. The game has changed beyond recognition - or has it? In A Game of Our Own' esteemed historian Geoffrey Blainey documents the birth of our great national game. Who were the characters and champions of the early days of Australian football? How was the VFL formed? Why was the umpire's job so difficult? Blainey takes a sceptical look at the idea that the game had its origins in Ireland or in Aboriginal pastimes. Instead he demonstrates that footy was a series of inventions. The game played in 1880 was very different to that of 1860' just as the game played today is different again. Journey back to an era when the ground was not oval' when captains acted as umpires' when players wore caps and jerseys bearing forgotten colours and kicked a round ball that soon lost its shape. A Game of Our Own is a fascinating social history and a compulsory read for all true fans of the game.

Gaddafi's Harem: The Story of a Young Woman and the Abuses of Power in Libya

Description

Soraya was just fifteen, a schoolgirl in the coastal town of Sirte, when she was given the honor of presenting a bouquet of flowers to Colonel Gaddafi, "the Guide," on a visit he was making to her school the following week. This one meeting--a presentation of flowers, a pat on the head from Gaddafi--changed Soraya's life forever. Soon afterwards, she was summoned to Bab al-Azizia, Gaddafi's palatial compound near Tripoli, where she joined a number of young women who were violently abused, raped and degraded by Gaddafi. Heartwrenchingly tragic but ultimately redemptive, Soraya's story is the first one of many that are just now beginning to be heard. But sex and rape remain the highest taboo in Libya, and women like Soraya (whose identity is protected by a pseudonym here) risk being disowned or even killed by their dishonored family members. In "Gaddafi's Harem," an instant bestseller on publication in France, where it has already sold more than 100,000 copies in hardcover, "Le Monde" special correspondent Annick Cojean gives a voice to Soraya's story, and supplements her investigation into Gaddafi's abuses of power through interviews with people who knew Soraya, as well as with other women who were abused by Gaddafi.

If they look to the right they are telling the truth. Although there is some science about eye direction, which we talk about in the book. It is not the most reliable form of lie detection. The book will show you more accurate (and easier) ways to spot lies. Lying Myth #2: Liars can't look you in the eyes. On average, honest people will make eye contact during conversations about 60% of the time-way less than you thought, right? Liars actually look you in the eye more because they want to seei f you believe their lie or not. Lying Myth #3: Emails and IM's are filled with lies because it is easier to lie when people can't see or hear you. In the book, I will tell you which of the following have the most lies: ___Emails ___IM's ___Phone conversations ___Face to Face interactions I'll give you a hint: Shockingly, we lie the MOST in phone conversations and the LEAST in emails. Why Is Lie Detection Important? It is important when we know we are being lied to because it can save us money, time and sometimes even our safety. This book can train you to get to the truth 80% to 90% of the time. That can save you money on a faulty house, from hiring a bad employee or making sure you know what is really going on with your child or significant other. Unfortunately, we are not good at detecting lies. We are only right about 54% of the time! That is a little better than a coin toss. We tend to assume the best in people and have a bias towards truth-"innocent until proven guilty." In Human Lie Detection and Body Language 101 I give a number of real life examples and tons of The Art of Nick Cave: New Critical Essays free ebook practical tips that you will be able to use immediately. For example, wouldn't it have been great to have known when Lance Armstrong was lying? Lance Armstrong Lies In his recent Oprah interview, Lance Armstrong's body language was off the charts with lies and inconsistencies. He constantly made the "contempt" microexpression, which you will learn about in the book and showed how he really felt about the interview. He also showed a dominant and aggressive body posture and seating position. His words said far less than in his body. You can learn how to decode these popular culture segments on TV and in real life. If you find this case fascinating and wish you could begin to unravel the mysteries of body language, then get your copy of Human Lie Detection and Body Language 101 now!

The classic story of one of the twentieth century's most extraordinary families.
